Grow more with less
AgriTech & Food
Teams build sensors, robots and software that help farmers grow food with less water, fewer chemicals and less waste.
AgriTech & Food is one of 12 competition categories in TechFest Australia, a national technology competition and festival for Australian school students and young innovators. It is open to Junior (Years 3–6), Secondary (Years 7–12), Tertiary (University or TAFE) and Open (Ages 18–30) entries.
The 2027 challenge
Help a farm get through drought: build a system that measures, predicts or saves water on a paddock, orchard or school garden, and show how much water it saves in a trial.
Example projects
- Soil moisture network that switches irrigation on only when plants need it
- Camera trap that counts pest animals such as foxes and rabbits
- Machine vision tool that grades fruit by size and blemishes
