Safer, smarter sites
Mining & Resources Tech
Teams develop automation, sensing and recycling technology that makes mining and resources work safer and less wasteful.
Mining & Resources Tech is one of 12 competition categories in TechFest Australia, a national technology competition and festival for Australian school students and young innovators. It is open to Secondary (Years 7–12), Tertiary (University or TAFE) and Open (Ages 18–30) entries.
The 2027 challenge
Keep people out of harm’s way on a mine site: build a system that detects a hazard such as dust, gas, unstable ground or a nearby vehicle, and alerts workers in time to act.
Example projects
- Wearable alert that warns a worker when heavy machinery is close
- Dust monitor that logs air quality and triggers a warning above a set level
- Sorting robot that separates recoverable metals from e-waste
